Two finals, 39 minutes each. That was all it took for India to walk away from Saarbrücken with both singles titles at the HYLO Open on Sunday, 1 November.

Two finals, 39 minutes each

P. V. Sindhu, the second seed, beat Denmark's Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in the women's singles final. She did not drop a game all week, and her semi-final win came against 19-year-old compatriot Anmol Kharb. The title is Sindhu's first at the HYLO Open and her second of 2026, after the Japan Open in July. It closed a strong fortnight: she had finished runner-up at the French Open the week before.

Lakshya Sen matched her almost exactly. He beat Indonesia's fourth seed Jonatan Christie 21-17, 21-10, also in 39 minutes, to take the men's singles title. It is Sen's first title of the season and his second HYLO Open title, and it levelled his head-to-head record against Christie. "It's been quite some time since I've won a tournament, so it feels really good to play this well," Sen said after the final. Sindhu, reflecting on her two weeks, said there was "still room to improve".

Five titles were shared between four countries, and India was the only country with two. Sindhu also became the tournament's first Indian women's singles champion.

A first since 2022

The double is India's first at a BWF event at Super 500 level or above in four years. The last one came at the 2022 India Open, where Sen won the men's singles and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the men's doubles. The difference this time: both Indian titles were singles titles, won on the same day by the two biggest names in Indian badminton.

A note on terms for newer followers. Super 500 is a tier of the BWF World Tour, the sport's main circuit; winning in "straight games" means winning in two games without needing a decider.

What happens next

The tour moves on quickly. The Korea Open in Yeosu runs from 3 to 8 November, though Sindhu is not on its entry list and is expected back at the Japan Masters in Kumamoto from 10 November. The home crowd gets its chance at the Syed Modi International in Lucknow from 24 to 29 November, and the season ends with the World Tour Finals in Hangzhou from 9 to 13 December.
